Frequently asked questions

What people ask before they get in touch. If yours isn't here, write to me.

Do you take my insurance?

No. I'm out of network, so Wisp Therapy doesn't bill your plan, and that includes Medicare and Medicaid. Some plans reimburse part of the cost of out-of-network care. Your plan decides how much, if anything.

What is a superbill and how do I use it?

A superbill is a monthly itemized receipt you can send to your plan to ask for reimbursement. It lists a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. A plan may reimburse part of it, and I can't promise that it will.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what care will cost before you start. It is an estimate and not a contract. How fees work explains your rights and links to the rules.

How much does therapy cost?

I give you your fee in writing before your first session. A limited number of reduced-fee places may be open, so ask when you write. How fees work has the details.

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Many health savings and flexible spending cards work for counseling. Ask your plan administrator whether yours does.

What happens in the first session?

We spend about an hour getting to know each other. I explain privacy and its limits, you say what you want from therapy, and we decide together whether to meet again. Nothing is a test, and the agenda comes to you in writing first.

How often, and for how long?

Sessions are 50 minutes. How often we meet is something we decide together, and you can change it. I don't promise a number of sessions.

Can I keep my camera off, or ask for changes to the room?

Yes to both, at any session and without giving a reason. The page on a low-sensory session lists what can be adjusted, and you can ask for something that isn't on it.

Are you licensed where I live?

I'm licensed in Oregon. Video sessions are for clients who are in Oregon at the time of the session. If you live elsewhere, I'll help you look for a clinician licensed in your state.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This office isn't monitored around the clock, so please don't use the contact form for anything urgent.

What stays private, and what are the limits?

I keep your records private and share them only as the law allows. The usual limits are a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, abuse of a child or a vulnerable adult, and a court order. I go through them with you at the first session.

Do you see teenagers?

No. I see adults, 18 and over. If you're looking for a clinician for a teenager, I can help you look for one.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session. A later cancellation may be charged, up to the fee for the session. If something unexpected happens, tell me and we'll talk.
